"The Bootleg Bandits" Walkthrough

"The Bootleg Bandits" is an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod that takes place on an island called Bootleg Bandit Cove. An evil bandit named Don Guillermo has built a small outpost on an Island in the north, in order to brew Skoomashine - a magical cocktail made from Skooma and liquor. This is a single-player mod that requires the player to make a moral choice at the end of the quest in order to reveal one of the two endings. The player must choose to either side with Don Guillermo and help him with his Skoomashine operation or the player can chose to side with the spriggans who trying to protect their home. 

Riverwood Bridge

Crum is the quest giver for "The Bootleg Bandits" and tries to push his product on to the Dragonborn. The quest starts when the player accepts Crum's free sample.

Skoomashine is skooma infused liquor. It causes the Dragonborn to blackout and dream about Gaea. 
  • Player accepts quest from Crum at Riverwood bridge who gives the player Skoomashine.
  • After drinking the potion, the player enters a dream and is introduced to Gaea.
  • She asks the Dragonborn to help her get rid of bandits who are destroying her home and kin. 
  • Gaea is a faction leader whom the player will have to either side with or against at the quest's end. 
  • This part of the quest allows the players to judge Gaea's intentions to see if she is a good or evil character.

The Bootleg Bandit Cove - Village Area

  • The player wakes up at Crum's house (1) where they figure out that the potion made them pass out and that Crum saved them.
  • Crum informs the player that the boss of the Bootleg Bandits wants to meet them.
  • Player goes to see Don Guillermo (2).
  • Guillermo tells the player to kill Gaea because she is interfering with his operation. If the player accepts, Guillermo gives them the distillery key. 
  • The player heads to the distillery, which is located in a cave on the island (3)
  • There is a boat at the beach (a) that will take the player back to Skyrim. 
  • After talking to Don Guillermo, the player can pickup the side-quest in the pub (b) when they talk to Scarlet. 
  • The player can find one of the items needed for the side quest in Scarlet's house (c).

The Bootleg Bandit Cove - Forest Area

  • The forest is a small transitional area between the village and the Bootleg Bandit Distillery. 
  • The player encounters three wolves on their way to the cave to break up the monotony of walking and to provide some action. 
  • Tree stumps, fallen trees, and piles of chopped wood inform the player that the bandits are cutting down the forest. 

The Bootleg Bandit Distillery

  • The player enters the cave, which is where the distillery is located.
  • There is a gate (1) that prevents the player from entering Gaea's sanctuary unless they have the distillery key. 
  • Player confronts Gaea (2). During this conversation they can hear more of Gaea's side of the story.
  • At this point the player can choose to side with Gaea or side with Guillermo.
    • Player sides with Gaea: Gaea asks the player to kill the bandits inside the cave.
    • When the player kills all the bandits, Gaea runs to the bandit village to finish off guillermo. 
    • The player receives the quest's reward by using a key looted from Guillermo's body to unlock a chest in his house. 
    • Player sides with Guillermo: Gaea becomes hostile and summons two spriggan minions to help.
    • Player returns to Guillermo for their reward. 
  • The player's reward for completing this quest is 1000 gold, Refined Skoomashine, and a weapon that deals bonus damage to spriggans.  
  • When the player first enters the bandit distillery area (a) they can kill the bandits before meeting Gaea. 
  • The player can attack Gaea in her sanctuary (b) without talking to her first.

  • Siding With Bandits
  • Siding with Spriggans

  • This is considered the evil ending since the player is helping bandits with their drug operation. 
  • Player kills Gaea (1) in her sanctuary.
    • Player can shoot Gaea from afar before talking to her.
    • There is a high ledge in the sanctuary for the player to hit Gaea from afar.
    • Player's can kite her back through the narrow cave passage.
  • After killing Gaea, the player leaves to cave (2) to collect the reward from Don Guillermo.
  • Gaea spawns spriggans in the distillery (a) and the player can choose to help the bandits out or not. 
  • The battle against Gaea is tough. Low level characters might have difficulty with this boss.
  • Having the Spriggan Bane helps a lot in this fight. Player can get this item from the side-quest giver Scarlet.

  • This is considered the good ending because you are destroying the evil bandits and helping the peaceful spriggans. 
  • Gaea asks the player to kill the bandits in the distillery(1) while she gathers allies.
  • Player meets Gaea in the forest before attacking the village
  • The player can pre-emptively kill the bandits in the distillery (a) and Gaea rushes out to fight Don Guillermo instead of asking the player to kill the bandits.

  • The player fights with Gaea and two spriggans in a large fight against six bandits and Don Guillermo. 
  • The bandits are easy enemies while Don Guillermo is hard. 
  • Once the battle is over, the player can receive an award by looting Guillermo's body and house.
